RE: Open Letter to the Televangelists from JUSTICE Ministration Founder Rev. Curtis E. Gatewood
How are you? Where are you?
Where do you stand on the violent acts of “white supremacy” in Charlottesville, VA, the legislatively violent “Tax Plan,,” Trumpism, masculintity’s abuses of power, women’s rights, political race-baiting, race-induced poverty, predatory capitalism, systemic child neglect, and “emancipation” through reparations?
Where do you stand on sentencing disparities, death penalty, mass incarceration, wealth disparities, legislative violence, mass killings, and white-supremacist-domestic terrorism?
Where do you stand on starvation-slave wages, health care deprivation, police unaccountability, Black economic deprivation, net neutrality, institutional white supremacy, racially-motivated deportation and anti-immigration, homophobia, Islamophobia, xenophobia, North Korea/Iran warmongering, or slavery in Libya and other parts of the world?
God Has blessed you tremendously with the microphone of mass broadcasting; you are blessed with a Dias upon the the major networks of television, and blessed with a congregation which consists of a massive world audience – yet your voices of justice are as silent as your church mice. Why? Where is your voice of justice?
No longer will powerfully visible Televangelists be able to hide inside your mansions of extravagance as the homeless becomes more and more frozen from the inclement conditions of homelessness; no more hiding in your beauteous stained-glass cathedrals as the streets become more and more “stained” with the blood of the “bruised” and oppressed. The “blood” of our brothers, sisters, and others “cry out from the ground.”
Please, no more hiding among the clouds corporate jets as the clouds of hatred and oppression continuously rain down the storms of destruction for each Black and brown generation; no more hiding behind your charismatic speaking when those in most need of a voice of protection are left voiceless, unprotected, and “scattered by the wolves;” no more hiding within the walls of “comfort and convenience” with Bibles in hand while pointing your fingers to the skies of heaven as God’s children are dying at your feet in the hell of earth’s injustice.
Either our most influential religious leaders are going to have to bring their “influence” and “Christianity” on the real streets to save, deliver, inspire, revive, rebuild, empower, and liberate real people or I believe God is going to soon cause you to stop playing “Christian” on TV.
When it comes to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose life we will soon commemorate – don’t just remember his “Dream” – remember his work, his Godly protests, his threats and persecution, ultimate sacrifice, and when he said “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands during the time of comfort and convenience, but where he stands during the time of challenge and controversy.” King’s “urgency of now” has “urged” us to ask – “Where do you stand?”
When it comes to Jesus Christ whose birth we will soon be celebrating – don’t just remember his “word.” Also remember his work and his willingness to “lay down his life for the sheep.” Remember his message about “hirelings” who are the hired hands who come collect their pay then turn around and “leave the sheep to be scattered by the wolves.”
I am founder of a new ministry called JUSTICE Ministration. “JUSTICE” is the acronym for “Jesus Uniting Souls To Increase Community Engagement.”
This platform will be used to provide strategic protection and a voice for the voiceless who are being “scattered by the wolves.”
We will use Jesus’ ministry as he outlined in Luke 4:18 as the basis for calling upon faith leaders, rabbis, imans, pastors, clergy, evangelicals, evangelists, community ambassadors, social justice activists, human/civil rights organizations, parents, elders, youth, sororities, fraternities, and other community stakeholders – without regard to religion or political affiliation to ensure we no longer allow children, the mistreated and the long oppressed to fall through and prematurely die in the cracks of our faith or politics.
You may call me at 919 939-5818 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. To find out more regarding JUSTICE Ministration or our campaign called “Stop Killing Us (SKU) Solutions Campaign” go to our website at justiceminstration.com.
If you agree with what we are saying and what God is leading us to do, please send a letter of endorsement and partnership so we may immediately begin partnering in this effort to save our communities as we “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.”
May God continue you to bless you and may peace be unto you!
Your brother always,
Rev. Curtis E. Gatewood
